Alan Cumming, born on January 27, 1965, in Aberfeldy, Scotland, grew up in Dunkeld and later on the east coast of Scotland. His early love for acting blossomed during his school years at Monikie Primary and Carnoustie High, where he participated in plays and theater clubs. After finishing high school, Alan worked briefly as a sub-editor before enrolling at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, graduating in 1985 with a BA in Dramatic Studies.

He launched his career in Scottish theater and television, earning accolades for his performances in productions like Macbeth and Conquest of the South Pole, which took him to London’s Royal Court Theatre. Alan’s talent was soon recognized with an Olivier Award for Comedy Performance of the Year in Accidental Death of an Anarchist.

His film career began with Prague (1992) and roles in Circle of Friends (1995) and GoldenEye (1995) introduced him to Hollywood. Alan dazzled Broadway audiences as the Emcee in Cabaret, earning a Tony Award and widespread acclaim. Over the years, he’s seamlessly balanced indie films like Urbania and Titus with blockbusters like X2: X-Men United and the Spy Kids series.

Beyond acting, Alan is a writer, producer, and director. His notable work includes co-writing and directing The Anniversary Party and penning the novel Tommy’s Tale. A versatile and celebrated performer, Alan continues to captivate audiences across theater, film, and television.
