The Golden Bachelorette Episode 2

Sep 24, 2024

Last night’s episode of The Golden Bachelorette brought what we might call a “quirk episode,” where viewers get to uncover the charming (and occasionally bizarre) reasons these contestants were cast to entertain us. As Joan Vassos continues her journey to find love, we are introduced to a series of unexpected personalities and some eyebrow-raising backstories.

Bunk Beds and Late-Night Confessions

The episode kicks off with a comical discussion among the contestants about their nightly habits, including frequent bathroom trips and sleep apnea—a sign that the group’s age range is firmly in the 50+ category. Pascal, the French salon owner, adds some extra flair to the conversation, casually revealing that he sleeps in the nude. His quirks don’t stop there—later, he offers to pay fellow contestant Gregg $100 to do his laundry, confessing that he’s clueless when it comes to washing clothes. Pascal’s Parisian charm is quickly becoming a running theme in the mansion.

Prom Night Brings Nostalgia and Surprises

The first group date of the week takes the men back in time with a prom-themed evening. The contestants shed their usual dad polos and deck themselves out in prom-ready attire, bringing a mixture of fun and nostalgia to the night. During the event, we learn some fascinating tidbits: Gary reveals that he’s Tina Turner’s godson, while Bob opens up about his family, describing Thanksgiving at his house as “Dr. Bob and 27 lesbians” due to his daughter being gay.

Perhaps the most touching moment comes from Jonathan, who shares with Joan that he never went to his high school prom because his date bailed on him. In a heartwarming gesture, Joan crowns Jonathan Prom King, offering him a moment of redemption and healing. The fact that Jonathan boldly sported a pink tuxedo jacket without a shirt underneath only added to the charm.

Chock’s Solo Date and Joan’s Type

Chock scores a solo date with Joan, and the two venture off to Disneyland. As they enjoy their time together, they swap opinions on topics like Florida being a “fun state”—a lighthearted but revealing conversation that gives us a clearer picture of Joan’s type. She seems drawn to tall, apolitical men with a penchant for discussing mortgage rates. Their candlelit dinner touches on the more serious subject of grief, with Joan once again displaying her well-honed empathy as she opens up about losing her husband.

Talent Show: A Parade of Unique Skills

The second group date is a talent show, allowing the men to showcase their quirks in the most entertaining way possible. Gregg tries his hand at stand-up comedy, Charles K. impresses with a karate demonstration by breaking a wooden board, and Jack delights the crowd with a sock puppet performance. However, Jack’s true talent is revealed as he spends the rest of the episode joyfully cannonballing into the pool—earning him the title of resident pool enthusiast.

Dan, despite a slight tremor, delivers a surprisingly graceful ribbon dance, charming both Joan and the audience. His performance earns him the top spot in the talent show, proving that vulnerability and a willingness to have fun go a long way.

Gil’s Troubling Backstory Comes to Light

Off-screen, this week’s biggest “quirk” isn’t a charming personality trait but a disturbing revelation. News surfaced that contestant Gil, a 60-year-old educator from Mission Viejo, California, had a temporary restraining order filed against him by a former partner earlier in the summer. According to the reports, the woman claimed that Gil made repeated unwanted contact with her and her family despite being asked not to. In light of this information, production has reportedly minimized Gil’s screen time and promotional appearances moving forward.

Although this news dropped after the episode was filmed, Gil still received a rose during the ceremony, as the show had not yet been made aware of the situation at the time of production.

Who Was Sent Home?

As the night comes to an end, Joan makes her rose selections. Christopher, Michael, Bob, and Jack are sent home. While we wish them all the best, there’s a special hope for Jack to live out his remaining days near a pool, where he can continue his beloved cannonball routine.
