Dancing with the Stars Episode 4
Oct 9, 2024
On the latest episode of Dancing With the Stars, contestants turned up the energy with Hair Metal classics, delivering performances set to iconic tracks by Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, and others. Despite a night filled with rock-infused routines, two couples faced a double elimination at the end of the show.
The week kicked off on Monday, October 8, with the theme of Soul Train hits, where Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong dominated the leaderboard once again. However, three couples, including Reginald VelJohnson with Emma Slater (21 points) and Dwight Howard with Daniella Karagach (23 points), found themselves in danger of elimination heading into Tuesday's performances.
Hair Metal Night began with an electrifying group number to KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite,” choreographed by Pasha Pashkov and accompanied by Whitesnake’s Joel Hoekstra on guitar. This week’s special guest judge was Gene Simmons, co-lead singer of KISS, who faced some mixed reactions from the audience for his remarks throughout the night, with some viewers describing his feedback as “superficial” and focused too much on appearance.
The audience wasn’t shy in sharing their opinions on social media. One user commented, “Just a reminder, Gene: it’s a dancing show, not a beauty pageant!” Another pointed out the inconsistency in his scoring, noting, “How did Phaedra get a 5 but Brooks got a 10?”
Below are the scores from Hair Metal Night and the results of Tuesday’s double elimination.
Dancing With the Stars Hair Metal Night Scores
Danny Amendola and Witney Carson
Score: 30 (7, 7, 9, 7)
Total: 60
Danny’s paso doble to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” impressed the judges, though Bruno and Carrie Ann noted he could improve his finesse. Simmons was the highest scorer, awarding them a nine.
Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater
Score: 21 (6, 5, 5, 5)
Total: 42
Reginald and Emma’s cha cha to Twisted Sister’s “I Wanna Rock” left the judges divided. Carrie Ann appreciated his charm despite the minimal steps, but they scored low across the board.
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong
Score: 33 (8, 8, 9, 8)
Total: 69
Chandler shined again with a jive to Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Derek called her one of the best dancers in the competition, while Gene was particularly moved by the performance.
Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko
Score: 33 (8, 8, 9, 8)
Total: 61
Brooks brought the energy with a cha cha to Poison’s “Nothin’ But A Good Time.” The judges praised her control, though there was some confusion with Simmons initially announcing a 10, but then confirming a nine.
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold
Score: 32 (8, 8, 8, 8)
Total: 62
Performing a foxtrot to Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again,” Stephen showed significant improvement. The judges commended his progress, and they received solid eights across the panel.
Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach
Score: 29 (8, 7, 7, 7)
Total: 52
Dwight’s paso doble to Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” was dubbed his comeback performance. Carrie Ann called him “back in the game,” and Derek crowned him the “comeback king,” though the judges agreed there were still areas for improvement.
Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart
Score: 22 (6, 5, 6, 5)
Total: 46
Eric’s paso doble to Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” had its struggles with timing, though Derek praised his determination. The judges were supportive but gave mostly low scores.
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten
Score: 26 (7, 6, 7, 6)
Total: 56
Ilona faced several stumbles in her jive to Quiet Riot’s “Cum On Feel the Noize,” but the judges encouraged her not to give up. Bruno mentioned her attitude was spot on, even if the execution wasn’t.
Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber
Score: 31 (8, 8, 7, 8)
Total: 62
Jenn performed a paso doble to Europe’s “The Final Countdown,” impressing the judges with her strong movements. Derek especially noted her impressive knee walks, while Gene gave her a slightly lower score than expected.
Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy
Score: 26 (7, 7, 5, 7)
Total: 56
Phaedra’s paso doble to Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name” had a few flaws, with the judges pointing out some stiffness in her movements. Simmons, in particular, gave a surprisingly low score of five.
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson
Score: 36 (9, 9, 9, 9)
Total: 70
Joey’s tango to “Rock You Like A Hurricane” by Scorpions received rave reviews. Derek called it the best male tango in the show’s history, and the couple earned straight nines from the judges.
Eliminated Couples
At the end of the night, Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart, along with Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater, were eliminated. Both couples had the lowest combined judges’ scores and viewer votes. Reginald said goodbye, reflecting on the meaningful bond he had built with his partner Emma, who also shared how grateful she was for their friendship.
