Oct 21, 2024
Dancing with the Stars Season 33 brought the magic of Disney to the dance floor in Episode 6, and it was nothing short of enchanting. From the iconic Disney tunes to the vibrant choreography, the night gave viewers an unforgettable show.
With "Dedication Night" now behind them, where stars paid tribute to special people in their lives, the competitors shifted their focus to embodying beloved Disney characters. But in this magical atmosphere, the competition remained fierce, and a surprising elimination added to the night's drama.
Who Took the Lead?
NFL legend Danny Amendola and pro partner Witney Carson shared the top spot on the leaderboard with Bachelor alum Joey Graziadei and his partner Jenna Johnson, both pairs earning 36 out of 40 points. Danny’s Contemporary routine was mesmerizing, while Joey’s graceful Viennese Waltz won over the judges. Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold claimed third place with a passionate Argentine Tango performance.
An Emotional Ballroom Return
A standout moment of the night was the emotional dance performed by judge Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert Hough, marking her first time back in the ballroom since a serious medical scare. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight as they delivered a heartfelt routine, leaving a lasting impact on both the audience and fellow competitors.
What Happened in Episode 6 of Dancing with the Stars?
For Disney Night, the dance couples fully embraced the magic of Disney, bringing characters to life through their performances. The night kicked off with a vibrant group number choreographed by Mandy Moore to Friend Like Me from Aladdin, featuring a special appearance by Michael James Scott, the Broadway star who plays Genie. Even hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough joined in the fun, dancing alongside the contestants.
Top Performers and Dance-Off Exemptions
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong wowed the judges with their fierce Paso Doble, tying at the top of the leaderboard with Danny and Witney’s impressive Jazz number. Chandler’s cumulative score earned her an exemption from next week’s dance-off, a huge advantage as the competition heats up.
Who Was Eliminated in Episode 6?
Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy faced elimination in Episode 6 after struggling with focus during their Jazz routine. Set to Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians, the dance was sassy and entertaining, but Phaedra’s occasional missteps drew criticism from the judges. During their team dance to I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from The Lion King, Phaedra’s hesitation became more apparent, leading to a three-way tie at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Despite their best efforts, Phaedra and Val couldn’t escape elimination. Afterward, Phaedra thanked Val for his patience and guidance throughout the competition.
Top Scorers of the Night
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong delivered the standout performance of the night with their werewolf-themed Paso Doble to We Own the Night from ZOMBIES 2, securing 54 points and the highest score of the episode.
Chandler’s confidence and skill continued to shine during the team dance to I2I from A Goofy Movie, where her and Brandon’s lifts and tricks wowed the judges.
Team Dances Shake Up the Leaderboard
The team dances in Episode 6 shifted the leaderboard standings. Team Goofs, featuring Chandler, Ilona Maher, Jenn Tran, and Joey Graziadei, earned the judges' favor with their highly entertaining and skillful routine, while Team Roar struggled with synchronization, leaving them at a disadvantage.
Looking Ahead to Halloween Week
Next week, the competition gets spookier with the “Halloween Nightmares” theme, where contestants will be drawing inspiration from their own real-life fears. To add to the excitement, side-by-side dance-offs will give couples a chance to earn extra points.
